Final train stop – at 3,800 metres above sea level

Peru's train network is very limited and expensive – and slow, in fact slower than the bus, in particular on the 400 km ride between Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca, and Cusco, the capital of the Sacred Valley. Seldom anyone uses it apart from tourists willing to fork out more than $200 when the bus ride, right along the train track, costs less than $10. I took this picture from behind a wire fence which literally marked the end of the rails.
