The first American women-owned community centre

When walking along 18th Street in the Mission District of San Francisco, one cannot miss the very colourful and massive mural painting of the Women's Building. While the building itself dates back to 1910, initially serving as a German gym before eventually becoming the first women-owned community centre in the US in 1979, the mural called MaestraPeace was produced in 1994. It celebrates women’s contributions around the world – yes, there are some ;-) (this last comment is meant to give people of the female gender a smile – love you).
